  1. I have a whole cookbook full of recipes that remind me of my mom. We did a fun project where we compiled recipes that she made for us growing up from how to make clay for your kids at home super cheap to a wonderful chicken noodle soup that she takes to those that are sick or need a tasty meal!

Any moms interested in the clay recipe? Here it is:

    Kool-Aid Playdough

Measure and mix together in a bowl:
    2 ½ cups of flour
    ½ cup salt
    1 Tbsp. cream of tartar
2 pkgs of unsweetened Kool-Aid/you can also use food coloring.

Boil 2 cups of water. Add to dry ingredients with 3 Tbsp. of oil.
Knead together until well mixed, and let cool. Store in a plastic baggy or covered container in the refrigerator to last the longest.
You can make all different colors from one batch by putting in the Kool-Aid after you have mixed the dough and separated it into smaller sections.

  2. My mom had a few specialties that we will always remember her for!!! Her chicken spaghetti was famous, and her sour cream chocolate cake cannot be duplicated, but here is the recipe if you have time and want to taste the most delicious and moist cake you've ever eaten:

    1 c. shortening
    1 1/2 c. sugar
    3 eggs, separated
2 sq. melted chocolate in 1/2 c. water
    (semisweet)
    1 t. vanilla
    1 t. red food coloring
    1 c. sour cream
    1 t. soda
    2 c. cake flour
    1 t. baking powder

Cream shortening, sugar, and egg yolks together. Add vanilla and red coloring to chocolate and add to creamed micture. Sift baking powder into flour and add soda to sour cream. Add to creamed mixture alternating flour, sour cream. Stiffly beat egg whites and fold into above.
    Bake 30 min. at 350
(Don't cheat on any of the steps---that's what makes this cake so incredible.)

    Frost with 7 minute frosting:
    2 egg whites
    1 1/2 c. sugar
    1/4 t cr. of tartar
    1/3 c. water
    1 t. vanilla
Combine, place in pan over double boiler---beat for 7 minutes---remove, add vanilla and beat 2 more minutes.

She always baked this cake in 2 round cake pans, and frosted in between the layers and all the way around. You can top with crushed pecans---half our family liked nuts and the other half didn't, so she would leave 1/2 free of nuts. :)
